Bowl Lathe Turning

Print

Bowl Lathe turning has certainly seen a resurgence since Robin Wood reintroduced it a number of years ago.

Since 2012 this course has been led by our ex apprentice Oli Weight who does a magnificent job of leading the group to a successful lathe build and the turning of at least one bowl each. Oli was taught by the master, Ben Orford, not only in the skills of building the lathe but also in making the required tools. Ben also taught another of our apprentices, Tom Hawken, how to make the hook tools which he does in the Cherry Wood forge and makes available for purchase over the weekend.

Ben taught this course for a number of years before hanging up his teaching hat but he is very much with us in spirit and in the skills of Oli and Tom. The following pictures are of the 2012 course followed at the end by a section featuring previous courses with Ben.

Do come and join Oli for this great course- you wont be disappointed!!

The following pics cover virtually every step of making the lathe and a bowl - thanks to the guys on the last course who contributed pics of the first day or so before I arrived. Cheers! (Rob Exton, Web Editor)
