Shave Horse

Print

A shave horse is perhaps the most usfull Green Woodwork tool, it uses a s foot operated clamp to hold a pice of wood whilst you shape it with a draw knife or spoke shave. The force that can be exerted by your legs causes tremendous pressure to hold the wood tight but this can be released instantly enabling you to turn the work rapidly.

The bed and head are made from Poplar, which is a light wood for transporting the horse in the woods. The frame and legs are made from Ash due to the inherent strength it has.

You can make your own on our July course called Pole Lathe/shave horse. This gallery shows the steps you will go through including turning components on the pole lathe.
